Moore, 24, will start his sixth season at the Shay in 2021 and has recently put pen to paper on a new deal with the Panthers that will see the hooker remain at the club until the end of 2022 at the very least.

Head coach Simon Grix said: "This hasn't taken too long to decide but being an appointment that we needed to get right, we weren't in a rush. After discussions with people I respect within the club and externally, we can confirm Brandon Moore is our new club captain.

"Brandon is well respected within our group because of the consistency of his actions. These actions are inspirational and 100 per-cent team first.

"He is a more reserved character than our former captain [Scott Murrell], that is for sure, bringing different qualities to the role.

"I don't expect him to try and be anything but himself. He has a group of players around him who will support him in this role, a role that he is extremely proud of."

Moore said: "Firstly I would like to thank Grixy in placing his trust in me to captain the side. It came unexpectedly but is a huge honour and one I couldn’t turn down.

I obviously have big boots to fill, [Murrell] was a great leader who has been at the forefront of all Fax’s success in recent years and has been a big influence on me since joining the club in 2016.

"I really enjoy playing here and going into my sixth season at the club I feel my best rugby is still ahead of me. With the squad we have building I am really excited and can’t wait to get out there and start playing some rugby."
