Shay players face punching charges

Five players have been charged with punching during Halifax’s 36-28 Kingstone Press Championship loss to Leigh at the Shay last Sunday.

Fax led 24-0 after half an hour and coach Karl Harrison blamed two outbreaks of fighting for the downturn in his side’s fortunes.

Three players have been charged with Grade A punching offences in the 28th minute - Halifax’s Paul Mennell and Leigh’s ex-Fax pair Sean Penkywicz and Sam Barlow.

Leigh’s Jacob Emmett has to face two charges of Grade A punching in the 28th and 35th minutes while Halifax’s Tony Tonks has been charged with a Grade B punching offence in the 35th minute.

Tonks, Mennell, Penkywicz and Barlow have until 11am next Wednesday to submit early guilty pleas.

Emmett does not have that option and will appear before an RFL disciplinary tribunal next Wednesday.
