Siddal impress against Cumbrians

Gareth Greenwood’s side established a 24-0 interval lead at Chevinedge en route to a 30-4 victory to stay top of the National Conference League.

Siddal were bouncing back from a first setback of the season the previous week, by 26-24 at Wigan St Patricks.

They lead the table on points difference from next weekend’s visitors Leigh Miners Rangers, who were 32-14 home winners over Saints yesterday.

Prop George Ambler drew first blood for the hosts on eight minutes and winger Gareth Blackburn added the first of five conversions.

Ross White, switched from the pack to centre, went over on 14 minutes as Siddal doubled their lead.

The visitors’ Luke Davison was the Premier Division’s leading try scorer this season before yesterday but home Shaun Garrod overtook him with scores on 28 and 38 minutes as Siddal stamped their authority on the game.

The stand off’s timely second, just before half time, was a hammer blow to the Cumbrians’ hopes of getting into the match.

There was no addition to the scoreline in the first 30 minutes of the second half.

Wath Brow finally cracked the Siddal defence through fullback Cole Walker-Taylor but his opposite number Freddie Walker had the last word with two minutes left.

Alarm bells are ringing at Elland, who were crushed 94-10 at Thatto Heath Crusaders in Division One, and haven’t won since the opening day of the season.
