Waites shows return to form

Waites, who has had shoulder surgery, was no match for Martin Adams in the final of the Netherlands event, losing 3-0.

However, he had earlier looked more like his old self against an international field.

He beat Co Stompe 4-3 in the last 32, then Danny Lanooij 4-2, Sven Wish 5-1 and then Geert de Vos by two sets to one in the semi-final.

The 38-year-old Waites, who was born in Bradford but works for Pennine Housing in Calderdale, won the BDO world title in 2013 and the World Masters in 2011.
