Halifax town centre 'much needed service' shuts its doors
The Discover Halifax information hub in Halifax town centre has shut.
Halifax BID – which ran the space in Woolshops – said the closure follows feedback from levy-paying businesses in the town centre “about how their contributions can be used most effectively”.
Halifax is a Business Improvement District (BID), funded by levies on Halifax town centre traders and charged with supporting and promoting those businesses.
Halifax BID says its team is still operational and “continuing to deliver projects and support businesses across the town centre”.

“Closing the hub allows us to focus more time and resources on direct, in-person engagement with businesses and stakeholders, responding to the priorities businesses have shared with us,” Halifax BID has posted.
The Discover Halifax hub opened in July 2021, initially on a trial basis but then as a long-term fixture.
According to Discover Halifax’s website: “It soon became apparent that this was a much-needed service.
“The hub is a great place for locals and visitors to learn about events and places to visit in our beautiful town.
"It also allows us to showcase the wide variety of businesses in Halifax by displaying leaflets, maps and local information.”
BIDs are voted in by businesses within a set boundary, with each term lasting five years.
Halifax BID’s term is due for renewal next year, and a ballot on this will take place next month.
