Children at Halifax nursery have “true sense of belonging”, report says

Children at a Halifax nursery have a “true sense of belonging”, a report said.

Jubilee Nursery, on Lightowler Road, has been praised by Ofsted following its inspection in June.

The nursery was graded at Ofsted’s Strong Standard in four areas and Expected Standard in two areas, with safeguarding standards deemed to be met.

The areas of Achievement, Children’s Welfare and Wellbeing, Inclusion, and Leadership and Governance were all graded at the Strong Standard, meaning leaders are working above the standard expected of them.

The nursery was graded at the Expected Standard in the areas of Behaviour, Attitudes and Establishing Routines, and Curriculum and Teaching.

The inspector, Amy Whiting, said children make “excellent progress across all areas of learning” and that leaders have created a “safe, welcoming and calm environment for children and their families.”

Ms Whiting described the leadership and governance of the nursery as “robust”, adding that leaders have a “rigorous approach” to staff training.

Ms Whiting also praised the nursery’s approach to supporting disadvantaged children, or children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

She said: “Leaders and practitioners consistently make a positive difference to the opportunities and experiences of all children.

"This is particularly apparent for disadvantaged children, those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), those who are known (or previously known) to children's social care and those who may face other barriers to their learning and/or wellbeing.

"Staff use a range of detailed and precise assessment methods to help them identify when children may require additional or specialist support.

"They work closely with parents and external agencies to ensure that children's additional support needs are identified at the earliest possible stage.

"This early and focused support contributes to providing all children with the best start in life.”

The inspector left positive comments on what it is like to be a child at Jubilee Nursery: “Upon arrival, children and their families are welcomed by warm and friendly staff.

"Children are safe and have a true sense of belonging within the nursery.

"They form secure relationships with the staff through a well-established and effective key-person approach.

"These positive relationships allow children to thrive, whether this is through praise, comfort or support given.

"Children smile, laugh and cheer as they play together and seek the staff to join in with their experiences.”

A spokesperson for North Halifax Partnership said: “A huge well done to the whole Jubilee Nursery team for this fantastic achievement and for their continued commitment to the children and families they support.”
