Primary school football team to “give it their all” as they progress to regional stage in Road to Wembley competition this March
A local primary school football team will “give it their all” when they compete in the regional stage of the Road to Wembley competition this March.
The team at Brighouse’s St Joseph’s Catholic Primary Academy will compete in Durham on Wednesday, March 25, after winning the first stage in Halifax last November.
Hannah Baldwyn, Year 5 teacher and PE Co-ordinator at the school, said the “amazing” team is training twice a week in preparation for the competition.
She said: “They are going to work as hard as they can and just give it their all.”

The first stage of the competition — the Adam Heslop Cup — was organised by Halifax Town and saw some 25 schools from across Calderdale and Kirklees compete against each other at Halifax Indoor Football Centre.
The St Joseph’s team — formed of seven Year 6 pupils and one Year 5 pupil — came top of the table with a goal difference of 31, and won first place medals and a trophy.
Miss Baldwyn said the team had never entered a competition like this before, and were “so shocked that they won.”
If the team is successful in Durham, they will then progress to the northern stage of the competition.
The winners of that stage will then go up against the winners of a southern stage at Wembley.
