Burglar punched woman who found him in her Leeds home

Police are today issuing an efit of a man they wish to speak to in connection with a burglary in which a woman was assaulted.

Leeds District CID would like to speak to anyone who recognises the man pictured following an incident at a house on Rawdon Road, Horsforth, on Wednesday, April 9.

The incident occurred after a man broke into the property shortly after 10.10am and began to search the house.

At around 10.50am the householder, a 62-year-old woman who had been out, returned home and discovered the man upstairs.

He then punched her causing facial injuries which needed hospital treatment before fleeing.

A quantitiy of jewellery was stolen in the offence including earrings, pendants and a necklace

PC Sam Warburton, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was a serious incident in which a 62-year-old woman was assaulted in her own home in a cowardly and thuggish assault.

“The victim has quite understandably been very upset by the incident and we are appealing for assistance from the public to catch this man.

“Anyone who can identify the man in the efit or who has information about the incident is asked to contact myself, DC Sam Warburton, at Leeds District CID on 101. Information can also be given anonymously to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.”
