Thought for the Week column with Martin Parrott: Time to Remember
Autumn is well underway! My little garden is struggling to stay green. It’s as if the plants are saying to each-other, “Can’t stand much more of this, I’m going to sleep!”
So, as the nights draw in, we greet a time of remembering.

The Church is good at remembering. At this time of the year, we remember those who gave their lives in war. We remember those we have loved and lost and all the great saints who have lit our way.
And every time we meet, we always remember, often in sadness, that the human family has the capacity for the greatest goodness but also the greatest evil.
And by our own thoughts (mainly) and actions (or lack of them) we remember again: we all share in this grim human reality.
My little garden is slowly dying as the darkness comes and the temperature drops. I will need to do some gardening soon instead of just looking.
It amazed me the other day to notice how the buds are already formed for next spring.
Because when they burst to life, we will be celebrating the greatest memory of all: Easter.
