Huge cracks in Elland Road will see route closed until safety inspection results are known

Huge cracks have appeared on one of the main commuter routes in Calderdale forcing the road to remain closed.

Elland Road in Brighouse was closed off on Monday afternoon because of a landslip.

The will remain closed while assessments continue following damage caused by ground movement.

A large crack has appeared in the road around the junction with Park Road, by Ash Grove Pipeworks, requiring the road to be completely closed.

Due to the extent of the damage, the Council has appointed geo-technical experts to carry out further inspections of the area.

The road closure will remain in place until the results of these surveys are received and the best course of action can be established.
