Resident thinks new Halifax leisure centre will be no benefit to the majority of Calderdale

The proposed development of a new leisure centre in Halifax is of no benefit to the majority of residents in Calderdale.

To get people active, leisure facilities need to be accessible to all, including those who do not have a car.

It is also annoying that all the development is Halifax based. I would also like to know why Halifax can only make their library, swimming pool and leisure centre last for 40 years. In Elland, such facilities last over 100 years.

I thought that Calderdale Council had a policy of reducing carbon emissions. One way to do this is to reduce the need to travel. About one tenth of my car mileage is down to using leisure facilities in Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge.

I think there is a crying need for a leisure centre in Elland to halt the town’s decline.

Finally, I hope that the Elland councillors will work together to ensure that Elland gets a fair deal.
