Thumping cup win is Brighouse Town’s ‘best of the season’ says boss
Three first-half goals and another late on guided Brighouse Town to a deserved 4-0 win over higher league opposition in the West Yorkshire League Cup second round.
Town travelled to Premier Division outfit Littletown on Saturday and they got off to a flying start when a corner was swung into Oliver Castle to score his seventh of the season.
Another move down the right flank resulted in the visitors’ second and a deep cross was this time poked home by Michael Carter for his 10th goal of the season so far.
Town’s dominance of the right side paid dividends once again on 34 minutes when Tom Brook added a third for Brighouse.

The hosts’ Jack Armitage zipped a ball comfortably wide from the edge of the box with the last meaningful chance of the half.
The second half proved a drab affair, but Brighouse captain Macaulay Peacock capped the win 10 minutes from time when he chipped Littletown’s goalkeeper from 35 yards.
After the match Town manager Luke Haigh said: “The best performance of the season by a long way. They looked more how one of my sides should play, they should be able to ‘mix it’ physically as well as mentally even from teams above. I thought to a man they were outstanding.
“I said at half-time I know the job is not done, but if you continue in the second half and you’ll punish these by four or five.
"[I wanted them to be] a little more intelligent with the ball in certain areas of the pitch; we don’t need to be forcing the game. I thought they executed the gameplan to perfection today.”
Opposition assistant manager Matty Thompson spoke of the severe injury concerns at the Heckmondwike club, saying: “We’ve been plagued by injuries. In all my career I’ve never known as many unfortunate injuries happen at once. It was game three and we had 11 first team lads out injured.
“It’s frustrating, as when we’ve had a full squad available, we’ve looked good and the results were positive. We’ve narrowly lost out in a few matches where you come away thinking with a full five subs, we probably leave with three points.
“Hopefully moving forwards, we can find some consistency within the squad, and we can start to push on and head up the league table."
Brighouse have no match on Saturday as bottom side Pool have resigned from the league.
