Hipperholme and Lightcliffe scoop club of the year accolade
After a year in which their teams clinched several promotions, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Bowling Club celebrated more success when they were presented with the Mark Jefferys Club of the Year award by the Halifax and District Bowling Association.
The club, which boasts a 114-year history, stands on land originally known as Roydlands, with its history stretching back to the Listers of Shibden Hall. The land was purchased by Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Bowling Club in 1911 and the first match was played in June 1912.
The 2026 weather certainly took its toll on the club’s green. Nevertheless, with the support of greenkeeper James Hanson and club members, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe maintained its reputation for an excellent playing surface throughout the season, albeit a little fast sometimes.
Their 71 registered bowlers play across 15 teams in the Brighouse, Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax and Bradford leagues and this season has been especially successful.

There have been four division winners during the season and a highlight was the Monday Afternoon A team who secured promotion to the Brighouse Premiership.
Hipperholme and Lightcliffe teams have celebrated no fewer than six more promotions to higher levels within the leagues.
