Queens crush Hall ahead of crucial Pontefract showdown
Pontefract 1 remain unbeaten after the fifth round of the Yorkshire Premier League but Queens are nipping at their heels ahead of next week's top-two showdown.
Aiming for a hat-trick of titles, Pontefract 1 went 11 points clear after their 20-1 demolition of Dunnington, which was ignited by skipper Matt Godson and Tom Bamford's breezy lower-order victories over late stand-in opponents, Matthew Stephenson and Darren Mould, respectively.
Frenchman Laouënan Loaec continued the procession at number three although Scotsman Rory Stewart dropped a game in defeating Dunnington's Amaad Fareed.
That left a treat for the Ponte crowd at number one as world number 24 Abhay Singh, who trains at the club with James Willstrop and recently won a silver medal at the Asian Games, took on Welshman Owain Taylor. The Indian number one, just back from the US Open, cruised to an 11/3, 11-8, 11-8 victory.

Second-placed Queens matched Ponte's 20-1 scoreline at home to winless Ferriby Hall, who fall to the bottom of the table.
Spectators at the Halifax club got an early night as Danny Bray, Chris Lea, Jordan Hardwick and club stalwart James Earles all won briskly in straight games.
Only recently-retired ex-England international George Parker was detained on court. He was stretched to four by Samuel Ince-Carvalhal but raced through the last game 11/1.
Newly-promoted Chapel Allerton are in third as they overcame adversity to post a 16-8 victory at Harrogate.
Isaac Green sustained an early injury against Thomas Simpson giving Harrogate a walkover at number four, but Sanath Sha and Stan Sykes dug the Leeds club's lower order out of trouble.
Aussie Brad Fullick took the lead twice but fell in the fifth to Harrogate's former world number 20 Chris Simpson. So the result came down to the top strings, and it was former Harrogate player Gabriel Cox who won it for Chapel A, 11/6 in the fifth against Caleb Boy.
Pontefract 2 claimed their first win of the season, narrowly overcoming Cleethorpes 14-10 to haul themselves off the bottom of the table with the help of aforementioned former world number one James Willstrop.
In a rare Yorkshire League appearance, 43-year-old Willstrop overcame 24-year Matt Gregory in five games at number two and Kiwi Lwamba Chileshe overcame Nick Wall in four at top string.
Those late victories coupled with Adam Smith's earlier win at number five, meant defeats for Ponte 2's Noah Riley and James Taylor, to Harry Falconer and Louie Trueman respectively, were not decisive.
