Extra Evita show after big ticket demand

Halifax Light Opera Society's production of '˜Evita' at the Halifax Playhouse is proving such a popular draw, that the society has arranged an extra performance.

The Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber classic runs from June 21-25 and originally no matinee had been scheduled.

Tickets have been selling so well that it was suggested that we now include an extra matinee performance, which will be on Saturday June 25 at 2.15pm,” said chairman Steve Convey.

The show which proved a massive West End and Broadway hit was made into a film starring Madonna.

“It is very rarely staged and was restricted for amateur societies until very recently,” said Mr Convey.

The original West End production made a star of Elaine Paige and the title role in Halifax is being played by Alexandra Townend, of Todmorden, who has been the society’s choreographer for eight previous shows, and is a performer and producer at Todmorden’s Hippodrome Theatre.

In the role of Che, originally played by David Essex, is Ashley Davis, who played the lead in the society’s last production ‘Copacabana.’
