What's on in West Yorkshire: Halifax theatre company bringing new Crime and Punishment adaptation to the town
Northern Broadsides are bringing a new adaptation of Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment to Halifax later this month.
The Halifax theatre company’s production will be at the Victoria Theatre from Wednesday, March 25 until Friday, March 27.
It show will see the audience seated on the stage, with the company turning the 1,512-seat venue into a 92-seat studio theatre.
And the huge canvas of larger-than-life characters will be brought to life by just three actors.

Connor Curren (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, National
Theatre) will play the protagonist Raskolnikov, a former law student.
Niall Costigan (The Book of Will, Shakespeare North Playhouse) will multi-role as the chief investigator, Porfiry, former civic servant, Marmeladov, and wealthy country gentleman, Svidrigailov.
And Spotlight Prize 2024 finalist Trudy Akobeng (Finding Emily, Working Title Films) will play Raskolnikov’s love interest Sonya, his friend Razumikhin, his sister Dunya, and landlady Nastasya.
Artistic director Laurie Sansom said: “Crime and Punishment is a story that asks profound questions about morality, obsession and survival.
"Now more than ever, we’re seeing young people grappling with the pressures of poverty, social isolation and uncertainty about their future.
"This production looks those issues squarely in the eye - asking what happens when someone feels they have nothing left to lose.”
