Burglary trio jailed after Elland home raided in dead of night and car stolen

A group of burglars who burned off a door lock to get into a home in Elland and steal a car have each been jailed for three years.
Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday (Wednesday) that two of the trio, 21-year-old Ellis Ashley and accomplice Luke Linden, 24, were still on licence at the time after being released from prison sentences they had received for similar offending back in early 2025.
During the early hours attack on the home the burglars stole the keys to a Cupra Formentor vehicle which was driven away as the owner came downstairs after his dog started barking.
Ashley, Linden and 26-year-old Nicholas Stones, all of no fixed abode, were given jail sentences after Judge Colin Burn said the house burglary in April this year had been “an organised outing” and the method of entry used was designed to make as little noise as possible.
The trio all admitted the burglary charge and a further offence of theft relating to stolen registration plates from another vehicle that night.
The court heard that a tracking device helped to locate the stolen car and DNA and fingerprints linked the defendants to the offending.
Detective Inspector David Purcell, of Calderdale’s District Crime Team, said: “We welcome the sentences handed down to Ashley, Linden and Stones.
“They are selfish individuals who targeted this home for their own personal gain.
“CCTV and doorbell footage assisted hugely in allowing officers to link these three individuals to the offence.
“Luckily we were able to return stolen property to its rightful owners and we hope the victims of this crime feel reassured that three burglars are back behind bars.”
