“Disappointing” closure of Post Office in Calderdale village announced
A local councillor has said the news that a village Post Office will close is “disappointing.”
Coun Jamie Furlong (Todmorden West, Green) announced today (Friday) that Walsden Post Office will close on Tuesday, November 17 at 5.30pm.
Coun Furlong said the news was “disappointing” and that he and his fellow Todmorden West councillors will push for the reinstatement of a Post Office in the village.
Coun Furlong said the closure was because of the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.

He added that the Post Office has reassured the councillors that it wishes to keep the period of closure to a minimum, and is investigating “options available to reinstate a Post Office service in the community.”
Coun Furlong said: “We know that this is incredibly disappointing to residents in Walsden. All three of your elected councillors in Todmorden West will be responding to them to reiterate how important the Post Office is in Walsden, and that for many residents getting to Todmorden is not that simple.
“We want to see a clear commitment from them to reinstatement of the service and we want regular updates on that process.”
The Post Offices at Lydgate and Todmorden, as well as Todmorden Banking Hub, remain open.
