A Harrogate singer has been given the opportunity to perform in front of thousands of people at Leeds Festival this month.

Katie Skinner, 22, a former St Aidan’s pupil will perform on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds Festivals, just a few years after she attended the events as a music fan.

She said: “It feels amazing! I went when I was 16 and 17 and I remember watching acts like Dizzee Rascal, Kaiser Chiefs and Kings of Leon hoping that one day I’d get to perform there.

“It is just mad and beyond words that I get to perform at the festivals. The line-up this year is one of the best so far I think too, so it feels incredible to be on the same bill as some of my idols and inspirations.”

With less than a month to go until the biggest weekend of music this summer the countdown is on for Yorkshire’s biggest music festival.

The event attracts around 70,000 music fans from across the north of England.

The BBC Introducing Stage offers one of the biggest launch platforms for new music from the UK, having last year offered up sets from the likes of Jack Garratt, Rae Morris, and Prides.

Over the years BBC Introducing stage has also hosted R&L debut slots from Jake Bugg, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Spector, the stage is a must visit for anyone wishing to catch future stars’ formative moments.

Electro-pop artist Skinner recently signed a record deal with York based Anonymous records and her single Dangerous Game has been played on Radio One after BBC Radio York presenter Jericho Keys backed her work.

The singer songwriter has recently graduated from the Leeds College of Music.
