NABMA (National Association of British Market Authorities) is asking people across the UK to vote for their market of the year.

Time is running out to cast your vote, as polls close on Friday 30 November. Visit www.nabma.com/vote and type in the name of your favourite market to help Calderdale markets take the prestigious title.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Strategy, Coun Barry Collins, said: “I’m not surprised that two of our markets are currently in the top 20, but now it’s the final push for votes to see one of them named Britain’s Favourite Market. This is our chance to show the rest of the country just how much Calderdale markets have to offer.

“The approach of Christmas is always a great time for our market towns. Why not head down to your local market and experience the festive atmosphere, enjoy some tasty treats and find perfect gift ideas?”

In addition to othe normal market opening hours, there are also special festive markets taking place.

Sowerby Bridge Totally Locally Market will be on Sunday, 2 December with reindeer and a visit from Santa, a brass band, children’s games and of course plenty of local traders with lovely food, drink and Christmas gifts.

On Saturday, 8 December, Todmorden Market will host their Christmas Food and Drink Festival from 1-4pm, packed with local produce, plus performances from a Christmas choir and brass band.

Calderdale Markets service will also support events around Calderdale, providing stalls and helping with the set up. This includes the festive market in Ripponden on Saturday, 1 December which will feature lots of stalls offering a range of goods such as arts and crafts, artisan food and local wines.
