There’s a chance to stay in cottages of all sizes on the coast, in the countryside and at National Trust places for less this summer with last-minute deals.

Better known for its stately homes and sweeping landscapes, the National Trust also offers holiday accommodation, many in some unexpected places.

One of the properties that would come under the deal is a trip to Minstergate in York.

The property for two, which benefits from views over York Minster, has plenty of character inside with wonky beams, sloping floors and a Georgian staircase that was added at a later stage.

Further afield there’s the chance to stay on a cliff-edge in Devon at Foreland Lighthouse Keepers' Cottage.

Accommodating ten guests, the quirky property is based on the Exmoor Heritage Coast.

The deal applies on holidays starting in the 14 days. Offer is valid until September.

The National Trust owns a number of properties that are currently booked up until later in the year.

There are two properties in Calderdale that can be visited for a mini-break.

Hardcastle Lodge is a cosy Victorian cottage at the entrance to the estate, with stunning views of the wooded valley.

Widdop Gate Barn is a carefully-restored retreat with original features with views of rolling hills and the Hardcastle Crags valley.
