Convincing victory keeps leaders Thornton in the driving seat

ENCO Halifax League Premier Division leaders Thornton maintained their lofty status with a comfortable nine-wicket win over Triangle last Saturday.

The visitors lost their first three wickets without a run being scored, one of the ducks golden. Tom Fryer (38) was the only batter to cause any problems for the duo of Dominic Anderson (4-23) and Grant Soames (4-20), who led the wicket taking.

Thornton completed the win in the 23rd over when they reached 103-1, Nikki Hutchinson leading the chase with 59 not out.

St Mary's were bowled out for 121 and, had it not been for number nine Ben Robertshaw's cameo of 63 not out, the score would not have reached three figures.

Imran Abdulrahimzai (7-43) was in the wickets again, as he reached 50 victims in the league for the season, and was well supported by Aaron Buckley (3-25).

Bradshaw were 67-5 at one stage but they dug in and eventually took maximum points at 124-6, St Mary's losing for the third match in a row.
