Mitchell delighted as Settle returns to boost Halifax’s midfield
Halifax FC Women fans were delighted to wake up to the news on Sunday morning that Macy Settle is returning to the club, after her successful loan spell last season.
Settle is loved by fans and teammates alike for her relentless running and quality on the ball in the heart of midfield.
The all-action midfielder was given her first minutes soon after the news was announced, playing the final 35 minutes of Halifax’s 3-0 win over Bradford City in the Women’s National League Cup.
Halifax manager Rob Mitchell was pleased with how the teenager performed, saying she made the tough, bobbly conditions at Cougar Park ”look like the Bernabeu”; an encouraging sign that she will carry on from where she left off last season.
When asked about the new signing Mitchell said: “I’m delighted to welcome Macy back to the club. We worked really hard in the summer to try and bring her in and now we’ve finally secured her signature for another year.
"She’s an extremely talented player with a high ceiling, bags of potential and quality both in and out of possession. Her work rate is phenomenal, and she plays with a calmness and maturity way above her years.
"I’m sure she has a big part to play this season, and I can’t wait to see her back on the pitch in Halifax colours again.”
And it isn’t just the coaching staff who are pleased to welcome the midfielder back, with Settle herself excited to get going again. She said: ”I’m really happy to be back at Halifax.
“I enjoyed my time spent here last season and felt like I finished the season strong and was in good form so I’m hoping to continue that into this season.
"I’m excited to work with the coaching staff again as they helped me grow as a person and player last season.
"It seems like there’s a great group of players that have been brought in and I’m looking forward to getting to work and helping the team in any way I can.”
The introduction of Settle helps to boost the team’s midfield quality and depth, and all those associated with the club will be eager to watch her play again, and to see how her abilities will contribute to the club’s ambitious objectives for the 26/27 season.
