Consistency pays off for Valley veterans in midweek series
There was much to celebrate for Calder Valley Fell Runners’ veterans when the curtain came down on the Rossendale Harriers Midweek Series.
The series ended with the Golf Ball fell race and going out in style was Shaun Godsman who secured first place overall. With two second place finishes at previous events, Godsman was crowned overall series winner.
Being on home turf in his beloved Lancashire spurred him on and Godsman made light work of the 9.2k course with 300m of climb, speeding round the course in just under 41 minutes.
There was more glory for Valley and both Ali Haley and Andy Collier won the much-coveted Rossendale Harrier cups for the V40 series.

Collier picked-up excellent results throughout the season and attended three out of the four races to finish top of the MV40 list.
Calder Valley captain Cass Chisholm had a great race, taking first place in the FV40 standings, but her praise went to her clubmate Haley and her FV40 series win. Chisholm said: “Ali has really shown that consistency is the key to success.
"This year Ali has been consistently doing her training, consistently improving, and by consistently racing in the Rossendale midweek series, has found success in winning the FV40 women’s series prize.”
Consistency also paid off for Francis Wooff, who finished third in the MV60 category for the series.
Golf Ball fell race results: 1 Shaun Godsman 40:57, 11 Andy Collier 44:42, 57 Cass Chisholm 58:00, 77 Francis Wooff 1:01:25, 100 Ali Haley 1:09:17.
