FC Halifax Town: “We want the season to finish” says Wild as National League season hangs in the balance

In a statement sent out to all member clubs, the league’s chief executive Michael Tattersall said the FA had been asked to assist them with “making the decisions to officially postpone all remaining National League fixtures and to end the season as soon as possible”.

Tattersall also said that “the broad consensus was that our clubs wish for a decision to be made to close the season as soon as possible”.

But there has been no official confirmation that the season has been made null and void as yet.

“The club’s been asked to give their thoughts on the situation but there’s no decision on what is going to happen,” said Wild, who is still holding out hope that the season will resume at some point.
“There’s basically three scenarios on the table - start it when it’s ready to do so, take a point per game average over the 46 games and play the play-offs when we can, or scrap it.

“The bottom teams in the Conference North and South are saying they need a decision because they don’t have the money, and they can’t play behind-closed-doors because that doesn’t generate the money to pay the wages, and at the other end of the spectrum, you’ve got a club in the National League saying they’ll pay everybody and they’ll sit out.

“I suspect in the next seven to 10 days we’ll know more.

“We want the season to finish and we hope and pray that’s what happens.”

When asked what should happen to those sides in promotion and relegation places if the season is cancelled, Wild said: “Nothing, nobody should go up, nobody could go up in my opinion.”
